In Loving Memory of Harry Collins

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Harry Collins—Lung Transplant Foundation Board President, advocate, storyteller, and friend.

Harry was larger than life in every sense of the phrase. His presence filled a room, not because he demanded attention, but because his joy for life was contagious. Whether he was sharing stories from his many adventures, advocating on Capitol Hill, writing one of his books, or even trying his hand at stand-up comedy, Harry brought energy, humor, and heart into everything he did.

As President of the Lung Transplant Foundation, Harry believed wholeheartedly in our mission. He believed in reaching more patients, supporting more families, and pushing the boundaries of what was possible for this community, often asking, “How can we reach more people who need us?” That question continues to guide our work.

Harry’s commitment to lung transplant patients was personal. He understood the challenges, the uncertainties, and the strength required to navigate this journey. He stood firmly behind efforts to amplify patient voices, expand mentorship, and advocate for policies that would improve outcomes and access to care. Those of us who had the privilege of traveling with Harry on advocacy trips or working alongside him saw firsthand his unwavering dedication. 

More than anything, Harry loved life and he wanted others to have the chance to live it fully.

He will be deeply missed by our board, our partners, and the entire lung transplant community. His legacy lives on in the patients we serve, the advocacy we pursue, and the hope we continue to build.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Harry’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We are deeply grateful for the time we had with him and for the indelible mark he left on this foundation and the entire lung transplant community. Harry left this world just shy of his 16th Lungaversary, an incredible milestone that speaks to his strength, his determination, and the life he so fully embraced.

In honoring Harry, we recommit ourselves to the work he cared so deeply about. We are reaching more people, strengthening this community, and ensuring that better outcomes in lung transplant remain at the heart of everything we do.
