Spring 2026 Writing Workshop

Topics:

The Lung Transplant Foundation is excited to announce that registration for our Spring writing workshop is now open. This inaugural event, “Finding and Sharing Your Voice: A Writing Workshop for the Lung Transplant Community,” is part of our ongoing effort to support lung transplant recipients and caregivers, with a specific focus on personal empowerment and expression through storytelling.

The workshop, scheduled for May 7th from 7pm-8:15pm EST, will be hosted by poet, writer, and lung transplant recipient Rosa Singer. Rosa has worked closely with the Lung Transplant Foundation in recent months in promoting the value of developing a writing practice through the life-altering experience of lung transplant. In February she was featured in “The Power and Practice of Writing Through Lung Transplant”, a resource published by the Lung Transplant Foundation to encourage members of our community to begin a writing practice, starting with a 28-day calendar of journal prompts. Additionally, in September of last year, she joined author Emily Rapp Black as the recipient speaker during our “Writing Your Story” Transplant Talk, during which she read samples of her work, and shared her passion for expressive writing. Now, she is launching her first writing workshop with the Lung Transplant Foundation.

“I want to bring this workshop to the Lung Transplant Foundation community because I believe we each have a story to tell and those stories matter,” Rosa explains. “I’ve experienced the way different types of writing have helped me discover and use my voice, pre- and post-transplant. I love the freedom of expression that writing embodies and the creative process it entails. It has given me a felt sense of my agency amidst the highs and lows. When I put my pen to the page, I know I am participating in an act of resilience, no matter how seemingly small. That resilience and strength is amplified when we write in community.”

Rosa has worked alongside the Lung Transplant Foundation to develop a beginner-friendly interactive workshop for anyone hoping to get started, or get motivated to tell their story.

Are you a lung transplant patient or caregiver who is curious about writing? Perhaps you feel you have something to say, or a story to tell, and you’re not sure how to say it or where to start. Or maybe you have an existing writing practice and are looking for some fresh inspiration. In this participatory class we will explore some common forms of writing and take part in exercises that begin to express your unique voice and experiences. There will be opportunities to share class writing within the group, if desired. You will leave with a new excitement about this creative and expressive practice and with tools and resources to continue on your own. Bring an open mind and something to write with, preferably pen and paper. No experience necessary. Due to the participatory nature of this workshop, registration for this even is limited to 20.
